Meet Dr. Merve Yılmaz Canöz
Merhaba! I'm Dr. Merve Yılmaz Canöz, I'm passionate about sharing the beauty of my native language with learners from around the world.
With a PhD in Turkish language education and 15 years of experience teaching Turkish to international students, I have developed a unique approach that combines academic rigor with practical, conversation-focused learning.
For me, teaching Turkish is about more than simply teaching a language; it is about helping students express themselves in Turkish, communicate confidently in everyday life, and build a connection with Turkish culture. Over 17 years of teaching, I have worked with hundreds of students from diverse age groups, cultural backgrounds, and learning experiences. This experience has taught me that every learner’s journey is unique and that effective language education should focus not only on grammar, but also on real communication, practice, and the individual needs of each student. I created Simply Turkish with this philosophy in mind—to help anyone who wants to learn Turkish in a natural, accessible, and confident way.

My Teaching Philosophy
Truly learning a language is about much more than memorizing vocabulary and grammar rules. It requires understanding how the people who speak the language think, communicate, and experience their culture. That’s why my lessons go beyond simply teaching Turkish; I explore how the language is naturally used in everyday life. Through practical, communication-focused, and culturally rich lessons, my goal is to help you learn Turkish not by memorizing, but by understanding and using it. Because my aim is not simply for you to speak Turkish, but to feel truly comfortable and confident expressing yourself in Turkish.
